#1 60GB iPods on the way? According to a single source at one of Apple's most prolific hard drive suppliers, Cupertino has ordered up a considerable batch of new 60GB drives specifically for use in updated iPods. Delivery has not yet been made, but according to the source, Apple documents in his posession indicate the update in question would take place in early or mid April; pricing is expected to remain stable for the time being. MacOSRumors.com posts a tidbit suggesting that 60GB iPods are due soon. All I can say is, WOW! Does this mean that we will see a spread of 20/40/60GB on the three models? #3 edesignuk said: I agree, 60gig was rumored a while back and looks like it might be happening but its really a side issue (if you can call making a Billion USD off iPods in 2004 a side issue) for a "computer" company. #4 60 is alot. im pushing 40, but id rather see computer updates than more ipod updates. #5 MacOSRumors doens't exactly have the best rumor record.AppleMatt #6 The creative Nomad Xtra Zen has been at 60GB for quite some time, and is only neglagabley larger than the iPod (However computer updates would be more benificial at this time, in my humble opinion. #7 I can't really see a need for much more than 60GB iPod, except for maybe that Home on iPod thing (10.4?) where you could use your iPod to log onto any Mac anywhere. #8 edesignuk said: very true, but it's probably a whole lot easier to plunk a bigger HD into an iPod than to figure out cooling issues for a G5 book or iMac...keep milking the iPod for revenue while it's hot. #9 If I may quote the Apple statement from the MR front page: Moving pictures. Sep 23, 2006 1:34 PM in response to An Hong Pham He I bought the 60 ipod a month ago because i wanted the ipod the most space and the 80 came out and its cheaper! I also bought the 2 year warranty on my ipod. Is there any way i return my 60gb and get the 80 with the old warranty included? If you bought it from Apple directly there is a 14 day return policy. Most other retailers have a 30 day return policy. If you are beyond those, I would say the answer is NO. Buying the warranty does not entitle you to upgrade. I guess you could sell it on Ebay and buy a new one. The 2 year warranty isn't transferable to the new unit if you have already registered it with Apple Care. A friend of mine was one day past his return period and basically at this point is stuck with the older unit short of selling it on Ebay. After checking out my 80 Gig he is happy with it. He didn't feel the brighter display was enough to make it worth his while anyway. He of course would LOVE to have the battery life. I have really enjoyed the battery life on the 80gig vs the older 30 gig big time. Steve Jobs announced that during the MacWorld Expo in January. #24 Chip NoVaMac said: If a 60gb iPod is true, i see the line up going 15/30/60. Makes more sense longterm. I do hope they update them to 60 gig. Then Ill sit back and wait for the "Dude you can get 15 gigs more and a dock, remote & case for only $100 more" comments. But I'm not bitter about anyone who spoke ill about the Mini.I do think the higher capacities will bring the potential for new functionality to the iPod. New hardware add-ons as well. Here's to hoping. Does anyone think we will ever see Bluetooth or some sort of wireless connectivity in the iPods? Would it be fast enough? I personally think it would be very handy, but maybe it's not for the masses.
