January 20, 2011, 9:55am 1 Hi all,today my avast tell me that a new program version was available, but instead of updating program I did an update of engine and virus definition. Then I make also program update.My question is: avast did not make engine and virus def update automatically, because it expected a program update. Changing order of this update, did I make an error? So the program update notification comes when it is your turn in the 7 day cycle.The virus definition & engine updates are checked for when you first connect to the internet and every 4 hours (by default) after that.So as you can see they are independent of each other, so it is possible to get/do one without the other. AVG antivirus is here... is not too easy, from that website, to find out what AVG means, but I'm sure it is something kinda simple I haven't thought of yet... oh well...However, I didn't exactly like AVG. December 12, 2017, 10:29pm 1 Hello. I made a mistake installing Avast on my windows 10 machine, and now i cant get rid of it. I tried deleting it via Programs and Features option in Control panel, i tried using Avast cleanup program. After a few hours Avast shortcut appears again, and when i check - program is installed again.Even more wierd things - when i tried to uninstall it the third time (using control panel) i keep getting error - Setup is already running, please try to start the setup later. And there is a link to an empty log page. There is no other programs installing or uninstalling, control panel has no troubles uninstalling any other programsI dont want to say this, but Avast does looks like malware - program should not install itself without my permission. It is also impossible to kill the process with Task manager (even when i open it as administrator). Aslo not having a proper uninstaller inside program folder is a pretty bad moveEdit - And its even blocking my attempts to remove it from startup! That does feel like a virus. Installs itself, cant get rid of it you have no idea what it is doing…Edit 2 - i also feel like i have to point this out - this is almost completely clear installation of windows 10. On startup, if any icon is right clicked on the desktop, I get the working circle indefinitely and to get out I stop Windows explorer, refresh explorer and then right click operation works fine. When Avast is disabled on startup or starting in safe mode (avast disabled) right click operation is fine. What the problem was, was something like TBhot Troj. Something to that extent. It creates/created a file called gebby.dll. That infected about half of my start up services, and 1/3 of my start up programs, including avast. So avast needed to restart because it was never loading properly.
