More than 500 different foils, Japanese alternate arts, special editions, etc. But it’s more interesting, I think, to get a snapshot of the base sets, so that we’re comparing apples to apples with the original sets from the 90s.Of course, we knew what would be at the top, but I’ll bet you didn’t have Tenth Edition on your bingo card!Collectibles are incredibly volatile spaces to invest in, as anyone who was collecting comics in the 90s can tell you. So don’t take any of this as investment advice, please. I myself do not do Magic finance stuff. It feels super risky. It looks great now with everything having gone up so steeply since 2019, but you know what they say about what goes up. Backup Plan - MTG (Magic: the Gathering)

The Mediterranean The first image from Europe’s newest weather satellite, released today, reveals conditions over Europe, Africa and the Atlantic with an extraordinary level of detail.Europe’s meteorological satellite agency, EUMETSAT, and the European Space Agency (ESA) jointly released the image from the first satellite in the new generation of European weather satellites, Meteosat Third Generation – Imager 1 (MTG-I1). MTG-I1 was launched on 13 December 2022.The image, captured by the satellite’s imager at 11:50 UTC on 18 March 2023, shows much of Northern and Western Europe and Scandinavia cloaked in clouds, with relatively clear skies over Italy and the Western Balkans.Details it contains, such as cloud vortices over the Canary Islands, snow cover on the Alps and sediment in the water along the coast of Italy, are not as clearly visible, or not visible at all, in imagery from the instruments on the current Meteosat Second Generation satellites.Crucially for Nordic countries, the image reveals a greater level of detail of cloud structures at high latitudes. This will enable weather forecasters to more accurately monitor the evolution of rapidly developing severe weather in that region.“This remarkable image gives us great confidence in our expectation that the MTG system will herald a new era in the forecasting of severe weather events,” EUMETSAT Director-General Phil Evans said.“It might sound odd to be so excited about a cloudy day in most of Europe. But the level of detail seen for the clouds in this image is extraordinarily important to weather forecasters. That additional detail from the higher resolution imagery, coupled with the fact that images will be produced more frequently, means forecasters will be able to more accurately and rapidly detect and predict severe weather events.”Director of Earth Observation at the European Space Agency (ESA), Simonetta Cheli, said seeing MTG-I1’s first image was a moment of great pride for the organisation and all those who have contributed to the Meteosat Third Generation programme.“This image is a great example of what European cooperation in space can achieve,” Cheli said. “The level of detail MTG-I1’s image reveals, unachievable over Europe and Africa from a geostationary orbit until now, will give us a greater understanding of our planet and the weather systems that shape it.“This image represents not just what can be achieved through European expertise but our determination to ensure the benefits of new technology are felt by communities in Europe and beyond.”The instruments on the third generation of Meteosat meteorological satellites produce imagery of much higher resolution more frequently than is possible from those on the second-generation spacecraft.Thales Alenia Space, MTG prime contractor, built the imaging instrument, the Flexible Combined Imager, and integrated the MTG-I1 satellite. The satellite is currently undergoing a 12-month commissioning phase, in which its instruments are switched on and the data they produce are calibrated. The data from MTG-I1 will be disseminated to meteorological services in Europe and beyond at the end of 2023, for operational use in weather forecasts. The ground segment infrastructure required to routinely process images was used to produce. Launching on November 25th, 2024, this new set is fully Standard legal and won’t rotate until “at least 2029.” For better or worse, MTG Foundations appears to mark a major shift in philosophy surrounding Standard and its metagame. As the name somewhat suggests, Magic: The Gathering Foundations is aimed at new players first and foremost. Offering a new entry point into MTG, Foundations aims to provide exciting new and reprinted cards to players new and old. To ensure the set is as accessible as possible, Wizards is even creating two new-player-focused products: The Beginner Box and Starter Kits. Unsurprisingly, following the release of MTG Foundations, the set has had a noticeable impact on multiple formats. So, without further ado, let's get started. How To Play Magic: The GatheringLet's start with a fundamental overview of MTG and how it works. Each player usually starts a game of magic with a 60-card deck consisting of spells (playable cards that affect the game) and lands, which are used to "pay" for your spells. Heartfire Hero and Leyline of Resonance.[10] Wizards of the Coast recognized that the deck's speed and ability to end games as quickly as turn two was having a detrimental effect on the format.Previously banned cards[]Fable of the Mirror-Breaker // Reflection of Kiki-Jiki[11]Grinning Ignus is the only other card to have been banned in Alchemy.[12] It was half of a two-card combo with the original Alchemy: New Capenna printing of Racketeer Boss that could generate an infinite storm count, an infinite number of cast and enters the battlefield triggers for creatures and an infinite number of enters the battlfield triggers for artifacts.[13][14] Due to Grinning Ignus having a mana ability that returned it to its owners hand, the combo was extremely difficult to disrupt and subsequently warped the Alchemy format. Digital play design assessed rebalancing Grinning Ignus but found that any such rebalance would eliminate the combo in the same way as banning Grinning Ignus and thus banning was the correct option.[15] Racketeer Boss was subsequently rebalanced itself to remove the repeateable treasure creation.[16]Previously suspended cards[]Leyline of Resonance was suspended from October 22 to November 12, 2024 while the Arena team worked on a rebalance for the card.[17][10] It's ability to provide explosive starts allowed aggro decks to win the game on turn two before an opponent could interact.[18] It was un-suspended as A-Leyline of Resonance.Flavor text[] Alchemy card with flavor text Many Alchemy cards feature flavor text that is not visible on the cards themselves, but rather in a separate pop-up box. Adjustments to your decklist accordingly.Iterate and Improve: Continuously refine your deck by adding or removing cards based on your playtesting experiences. Remember, no deck is perfect. Every deck has favorable and unfavorable matchups.FormatsOne of the best things about MTG compared to other TCGs is the different ways you can play Magic. For an in-depth explanation of these formats, check out my article All MTG Formats Explained. For now, here is a small rundown of the most common/established formats:Limited (Draft/Sealed): In these formats, players open a set number of booster packs and construct decks from the cards they open.Standard: This format uses the most recent sets of cards, providing a constantly evolving and dynamic playing experience.Modern: This format uses cards from the 8th Edition set forward, offering a wider card pool and more strategic depth.Commander (EDH): A multiplayer format focused on building powerful, themed decks around a legendary creature commander.Beyond these, there are numerous other formats, both official and unofficial, including:Legacy: Uses cards from all sets, with the exception of special expansions and sets.Vintage: The oldest format, allowing for virtually any Magic card ever printed.Pauper: A budget format where players can only use common cards.Pioneer: A format using cards from the Return to Ravnica block forward.Historic: A digital-only format using cards from Arena and MTG Arena sets.Additionally, there are numerous casual and custom formats played by Magic enthusiasts worldwide, further expanding the possibilities of the game. Perhaps the most user friendly way to learn the game for new players is MTG
