BASEBALL IQ. Baseball IQ is the secret weapon that separates otherwise equal players. Baseball IQ is what lets that kid seem to always be in the right place defensively. Baseball IQ is what lets that kid know when to throw the ball or not throw the ball. Baseball IQ is what lets that kid know when to take an extra bag on a missed cut. Baseball IQ will be one of the determining factors when separating players with equal tools. Baseball IQ can help you make the cut. At Hard 90 Baseball, we have had a documented baseball curriculum designed to teach Baseball IQ from the beginning.

And this would be learning as much about baseball as they could. Comment I wouldnt apprieciate it if I was cut from a team because i didnt know who Roger Maris was, but I knew every rule in the baseball rulebook, everyplay I was taught to know, took hitting lessons from 5 different instructors the whole off-season, worked out 3 days a week, and practiced like theres no tomorrow. I LOVE BASEBALL, but there are somethings that kids my age know more about than I do. Kids that are incrdeibly scrubby that go to my school and ask me, "what was the score last night for the met game?, or what time does the met game start?", and I have not a clue of how to answer eiether of them because I had a triple header the day before up until 11:30 playing baseball. I play a lot of baseball and theres no time for me to watch games, or listen to them on the radio. So if I dont know of the present, how am I going to know much about the games past? I really hope the kids in my school would have eqal chance of getting cut just as I did.I know a number of great players with good attitudes who practice and give the game everything they got because its there only way out of poverty, and they really dont know a thing about baseball before the year 2000.I have an incredible passion and interest for the game, but I still dont know all that much about the games history, although i know its terms and situations. Anyway, I think that most people agree that its not nessecary to take an IQ test while trying out for a team. Last edited by Guest; 05-22-2006, 12:17 PM. 2025-04-16Originally posted by SluggerCF91 If I was the greatest ball player in history, and I would really help your team win a lot of ballgames (or championship or w/e), would you cut me because I didnt know who Willie Mays was? Look at it a different way. Do you feel that a good player does more than just show up to games and practice? The good players I coach subscribe to baseball magazines, takes lessons, go to the cages, learn about different techniques etc.... The question was geared toward younger players. If I had two equal players at tryouts I will always pick the one with more knowledge.... Should all baseball players that tryout for a Jr.High/Highschool/District/All-Star/College team have to take a Baseball IQ test? Don't look at it as a history quiz, it's more of an interest quiz. 2025-04-03To him once the deal was done. "I probably know Zac the most of anyone on the team," said Burnes, "so it'll be fun to share a rotation with him and just a lot of other guys on the team."And the excitement stretches across the organization. Manager Torey Lovullo said he was "ecstatic" when he learned of the acquisition."This is a pretty monumental day here in the Valley, because we got arguably one of the best pitchers in all of baseball," Lovullo said. "Not only is [Burnes] a terrific talent on the field, but there's a process. There's a thoroughness to who he is and what he means each and every day to himself and those around him. I think there's a very high baseball IQ that loves to compete."He's been unbelievable for the past 5 or 6 years and put himself in this position to get this type of contract. I feel like he's going to make everybody around him better. He hit that right on the head," Lovullo said.Regardless, the Diamondbacks are clearly committed to building their roster back to World Series form. Burnes will undoubtedly aid in that endeavor, and have a chance to contribute at the highest level. The right-hander is clearly all-in on this team, with plenty of his own wisdom to add to the room. Living close to his family, and getting the opportunity to compete in postseason baseball were instrumental factors in bringing the Cy Young winner to the D-backs' organization. With a potential for six years' worth of ace-tier pitching, Arizona is in a prime position to compete for seasons to come, and Burnes is well aware of that fact."This is a really good baseball team, young baseball team. So it's got many years of winning ahead of them. So that was
2025-03-25I'am one of those players who subscribe to magazines( baseball exp, warehouse, junior baseball, sports illustrated, baseball america, etc), practice a lot, take lessons, and all that jazz. If Willie mays failed the test, and an average Joe JUST passed, who would u take. And you may say that average players with good knowledge can be turned into good players. I know more than most kids my age of the sport, its history, and have decifered almost everyplay in the game (missing a few). Iam not the best player on my team, nor in the league, nor in the state. You can say with practice and hard work, I can become better. So why am I not becoming better? it seems to me that the players with talent will always come through more than the players without the talent (obvious). So why take the average joe? even if he knows more of the game than anyone who ever lived. if my school had an IQ test, all the best players would fail. None of them devote time and effort, or study the game,or know its history, yet they help us win ballgames. I can only tell you how I, as a person who has coached through high school with twenty years experience feels. At 14 you may not see it.... Three years ago I sent my best player packing. I would rather work with an average player that works hard at the game than an exceptional player that doesn't. This includes learning the game.... Comment Prince of Pounders Join Date: Sep 2005 Posts: 10515 I think there's generally a correlation between being a great player and having passion/interest for the game. That includes passion/interest toward the game and players before your time. There are exceptions no doubt, and I don't think players should be required or expected to know specific details. Its one thing for Griffey to not know that Babe met Helen at Landers Coffee Shop, or that he paid $115 bucks for his first motorcycle, or that he once stalked a turkey for hours before finally getting a
