Geometer Plus FBReader, BookDesigner, Cool Reader, etc. What is a EPUB file? Electronic publication, to every bibliophile known as EPUB file, is one of the most popular formats used for storing e-books and other types of content. It’s an open XML-based format that provides a standard digital publication for both publishers and consumers. This type of file format is based on three open standards maintained by the IDPF. The first one is OPS (Open Publication Structure) that defines the content markup. Next, there’s OPF (Open Packaging Format) that describes the e-book structure. And the third one is OCF (Open Container Format), which packages all files together in a compressed format. Every EPUB file can be opened with Apple Pages, Adobe Digital Editions, Apple Books, Google Play Books, File Viewer Plus, FBReader, etc. Convert MOBI to different formats MOBI TO AZW, MOBI TO AZW3, MOBI TO AZW4, MOBI TO CBC, MOBI TO CBR, MOBI TO CBZ, MOBI TO CHM, MOBI TO EPUB, MOBI TO FB2, MOBI TO HTM, MOBI TO HTMLZ, MOBI TO LIT, MOBI TO LRF, MOBI TO PDB, MOBI TO PML, MOBI TO PRC, MOBI TO RB, MOBI TO SNB, MOBI TO TCR, MOBI TO TXTZ and MOBI TO MOBI. Books About Books - Bibliophile Books
Either written or printed, even a detailed analysis of the Gutenberg bible.Even down to such modern day technology, kindle, audio, authors and books like Harry Potter, Fifty shades, all manner of reading and its ephemera are discussed, whether considered "trash" reading or high brow works of literature. Then there was the chapters on art installations involving books, even books made of cheese, works of art depicting books, which of course sent this sad old bookworm down a rabbit hole of researching and googling! This was just a pure delight to any bibliophile as all topics and areas of books, their history, their authors, their magic is explored, how can any true reader fail to be enchanted by this?367 reviews13 followersOctober 2, 2023Non-Fiction>History, 312 pages (about half are the 'real' content), published 2022My overall take on this is that it is a great book about books. So this is literally about the written and published thing that is a book-not about content or story flow or plotlines, but about printed and bound books and the cultural interaction with them. This is certainly an informative and interesting read, but I do wish the whole chapters weren't centered around very specific examples of the author's point. It's not terribly long, so to do justice to the history of every part of the book she would likely have needed more space, so it is not very deep on any one subtopic/chapter but at the same time is fairly deep on the one aspect in each chapter she chooses to go into. For example, she talks in Chapter 5 about the makings of a 'classic' but spends far too much time going on and on about Rachel Carson's Silent Spring as if there aren't 100 other classics to delve into. The author states that she intends each chapter to stand alone and the reader can read them in any order according to the topic of interest. She has notes throughout the text that such-and-so is further discussed in Chapter # for further reading on it. Bar in New York City I could give them “stale.sings.candle” and they would know exactly where that was on the What3Words app. The development team has suggested that effective use cases could be in emergency situations where it can be hard to locate yourself or on beaches or in parks where there aren’t precise landmarks. At the time of writing, the app is slightly limited in scope as folks would still need to use other apps to direct themselves to locations but this is clearly a very interesting tool and worth exploring. iOS AndroidSunriseLooking for an alarm app that’s a bit gentler but still effective? The Sunrise alarm clock gets you up with the sun for a soothing morning wakeup. It’s a simple, elegant app that turns on an alarm with one button. Simply click “on” and your alarm will get you up 15 minutes before sunrise. It’s the perfect alarm app for morning people or those who want to get a beautiful view of the sunrise. iOSBasmoIf you’ve been spending the last year and a half trying your best to read more, worry not. There’s an app for that. Basmo is perhaps the best reading tracker we’ve come across. This iPhone app helps you catalog your current reading list, build your wishlist, and journal your thoughts and reactions to books. Set goals for yourself, take notes while you’re reading, and virtually organize books in your collection. If you’re a bibliophile, this is the app for you. iOSRunPeeHere’s a hypothetical: You’re at the movie theater and didn’t intend on getting the large Coke with the large popcorn, but it was literally only a dollar more than the regular, so you were like, “WOW, WHAT A BARGAIN!” Before the previews are over, you’ve already downed half the soda. Now you’re filled to bursting with high fructose corn syrup water, and the movie’s about to start. You need a bathroom break, but you don’t want to miss any of the action. What’s a guy to do? BOOM. RunPee. RunPee is an app that tells you the perfect time to run to the bathroom during your movie, and gives you a synopsis of what you’ve missed when you get back. You’ll never miss an important scene again. It’s basically the best app since Tinder. iOS AndroidIFTTTIFTTT (or “If This Then That”) is a clever and powerful app available for iPhones and Android devices. The concept is simple. If “X” happens, then “Y” happens. For example, if I turn off my smart alarm on the door, the living room light turns on. IFTTT connects smart devices, apps, and productivity tools in a streamlined flow. The app is still relatively young but there are plenty of supported programs so you can start integrating across a variety of apps. You won’t be able to schedule any complicated commands at the moment, but for basic things like calendar events, weather alerts, and much more, IFTTT is more than capable. iOS AndroidWho's Who - Bibliophile Books
Absolute blast browsing the fashion section. We even stumbled upon books from the 1700s, which was so cool to flip through. In total, we spent around two hours and $100 here, and we still didn’t see half of the store. This place is truly one of a kind, everyone should visit at least once in their life to experience it!Keegan — Google reviewWhat a unique bookstore experience. The place is vast! It actually feels like being in a library with its rows and rows of bookshelves albeit being noisier than the bush of a library. The rare books room on the top floor is worth browsing through. It feels like being in a museum. You should definitely stop in on your next Portland visit and check this bookstore out.Taku S — Google reviewPowell’s City of Books is not just a bookstore—it’s an experience. As a lifelong book lover, walking into this iconic Portland landmark felt like stepping into a literary wonderland. With its maze-like layout, color-coded rooms, and towering shelves, it’s easy to lose yourself (happily) for hours. What sets Powell’s apart is its sheer volume—new and used books seamlessly coexist, creating a treasure hunt atmosphere where you might stumble upon a signed first edition next to a well-loved paperback. Their collection spans every genre imaginable, from rare finds to the latest releases, and the knowledgeable staff always seems ready with a great recommendation.Beyond the books, Powell’s fosters a true reading culture. The in-store café provides the perfect spot to dive into your new finds, and their author events make it a hub for literary enthusiasts. It’s the kind of place that reminds you why you fell in love with books in the first place—every corner holds the possibility of discovering something unexpected.Whether you’re a casual reader or a devoted bibliophile, Powell’s City of Books is a must-visit. Plan to spend hours here—you won’t regret it.Nicky G — Google reviewClassic, iconic downtown Portland bookstore with a large selection and a proper coffee shop inside. FWIW, they are pretty heavy handed in featuring only one side of our nations hot-button political & cultural topics. I get it. It’s downtown Portland. But this place is quite the echo chamber, especially ironic considering the huge sign reading “this is a place where minds are never made up”. 😅But it is a very cool and iconic echo chamber (with good coffee!). Another.I wonder why the human psyche is so addicted to happiness. What evolutionary function does it perform? When we are feeling down we look to artificial stimulants, hedonistic pleasures as well as other psychological addictions to make us happy. That generally seems to be tolerable behaviour, a reprieve from the necessary laws that bind society, but often the repercussions are filled with regret.Until that day when world peace permeates the Earth, I can be happy but only for a moment; I can laugh, but not fully.
