The first one that works well in the Compaq computer, I'm keeping!)I purchased two Linksys WMP54GS adapters for my windows98SE machines.The first I installed in my Dell Dimension XPS R 400. I first installed the latest software driver downloaded from your site. Then I placed the adapter in the machine and cold booted the machine. After configuration it operates perfectly.It was a second attempt - I had a D-Link DWL-G520 I tried to install. To get it to work at all I had to disable the modem and the dial up adapter. And the machine never booted properly after the first time it worked. So I'm taking the D-Link adapter back to the store.The second Linksys WMP54GS I installed in my Compaq Deskpro P500. I first installed the driver, and then turned off the machine.I placed the adapter in the slot and then cold booted the machine.I heard a few click and then the machine stopped. Nothing appeared on the screen (not even the memory check).I removed the adapter and then cold booted the machine again.This time it worked perfectly.I swapped the adapter into the Dell computer to see if the adapter might be faulty. It wasn't. The second adapter worked fine in the Dell computer.There is apparently some hardware conflict at a very low level with the Compaq P500, that stops the boot process (probably the part of the boot process run by the bios when it tries to find what is connected to the computer.)Please let me know if this is the first time you've heard of this problem.(By the way, the D-Link adapter worked kind of ok in the Compaq computer. To get it to work, I had to disable the modem and the dial up adapter and the ethernet card.
