Discord is a popular chat platform, especially among gamers. But as privacy and security issues have become more prevalent within this community, many users have considered switching to a more reliable option. Here are five Discord alternatives to try if you’re in search of a safer chat experience. What is Discord?Discord is a VoIP and instant messaging social platform, similar to Skype and Slack. By joining private chats and communities called “servers,” Discord users can communicate via media files, voice calls, video calls, and text messaging. Discord is quite popular in the gaming community as it provides a convenient way to communicate with other gamers while playing. As of March 2022, Discord has 150 million monthly active users. But despite the popularity of this service, Discord has seen its share of security flaws, including phishing, ransomware, malware, and even malicious bots infiltrating Discord chats. Luckily, there are plenty of Discord alternatives that pose less of a risk to your privacy and security. After all, no one wants to be worried about cyber threats when they’re trying to enjoy a game and connect with friends. 1. MumbleMumble is an open-source voice chat app that offers high-quality service for gamers. While it doesn’t include browser support, it is available for Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, and Windows – not to mention, its impressive sound quality makes up for any lack of features. As far as privacy, Mumble offers chat encryption, as well as an authentication feature that stops strangers from dropping into chat rooms. 2. TeamspeakThis VoIP and messaging app is not only noted for its stellar real-time audio quality, but for its military-grade AES encryption as well. Teamspeak also lets you adjust your privacy settings so you can control who can join a room or speak. The only downside of Teamspeak is that they do not have a video chat feature. 3. Element With a similar UI to Discord, Element stands out as a practical and user-friendly alternative. Users can leave conversations silently and share files with fellow gamers and friends. And when it comes to security, Element offers end-to-end encryption for all users, making all communications safe from spying and other malicious activity. 4. ViberFor users looking for a chat app with a bit of fun, too, look no further than Viber. On top of high-quality audio and video calls as well as messaging, Viber also offers thousands of GIFs and sticker options to adorn your chats. For security, Viber uses end-to-end encryption to make sure your messages stay shielded from any third-party meddling. 5. ToxWhen it comes to privacy, Tox is a standout option. This messenger app blocks any third-party meddling to keep your chats safe and secure. And with

Discord is more than just a platform for gamers. It’s a social hub where you can interact with communities, share your interests, make new friends, and stay connected with existing ones. But what happens when you need to find someone and all you have is their username? No tag number, no direct link—just a name.Finding someone on Discord without their tag number can be a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack. While the platform is designed around tags for easier user identification, there are workarounds to this dilemma. Buckle up, as this comprehensive guide is about to take you on a detailed journey through the various methods you can use to track down that elusive Discord user, even without their tag number.Community Servers and Mutual ConnectionsIt’s often said that six degrees of separation exist between you and any other individual on the planet. While we can’t verify that statistic, it does hold some weight in the world of Discord. Mutual servers and mutual connections often pave the way to finding the person you’re looking for.Mutual ServersIf you’re hunting for someone specific, start by checking the servers you’re both a part of. Discord provides a list of mutual servers when you click on someone’s profile. To check this:Open Discord.Go to a server where you think the person might be a member.Browse the list of members. The drawback here is that this method requires you to have some idea of the communities the individual might be a part of.Friend Lists of Mutual ConnectionsDon’t underestimate the power of networking—even on Discord. If you have friends in common, that might just be the key to locating someone. Here’s what you can do:Open a chat with a mutual friend.Click on their profile and scroll down to view their friend list.Search for the person you’re looking for.By scouring mutual servers and friend lists, you leverage your existing network, making your search considerably easier.Social Media SleuthingThe digital age has interconnected various social media platforms in unexpected ways. Many Discord users link their profiles with other social media accounts, like Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook. Let’s explore how this integration can help you find someone on Discord.Search Through Social Media ProfilesHere’s the strategy:Search for the person’s other social media accounts where they may have mentioned their Discord username.Check Twitter bios, Instagram stories, Facebook posts, or even LinkedIn profiles for any hint of a Discord username.Remember that privacy

Today, I’m talking to Jason Citron, the co-founder and CEO of Discord, the gaming-focused voice and chat app. You might think Discord is just Slack for gamers, but over time, it has become much more important than that, and for a growing mix of mostly young, very online users steeped in gaming culture, fandom, and other niche communities, Discord is fast becoming the hub to their entire online lives. A lot of what we think of as internet culture is happening on Discord. In many ways, Discord represents a significant shift from what we now consider traditional social platforms. It’s not a public-facing network like Facebook or Instagram, and it’s not really a broadcast medium for creators quite like YouTube or TikTok. But it’s also not a forum in the way, say, Reddit is, where you participate in big public threads curated by moderated communities. Instead, as you’ll hear Jason describe it, Discord is a place where you talk and hang out with your friends over shared common interests, whether that’s video games, the AI bot Midjourney, or maybe your favorite anime series. It is a very different kind of interface for the internet.Listen to Decoder, a show hosted by The Verge’s Nilay Patel about big ideas — and other problems. Subscribe here!Jason and I dug into the nuances of how he sees Discord in the landscape of other platforms and how he’s made conscious choices about what he sees as the future of online communication. For Discord, that future is smaller, more intimate, and far from the public eye. We also discussed the inherent tension between the version of Discord that acts as a tool for voice chat and the version of Discord that’s become a social destination mixing public and private in increasingly complex and, at times, legally fraught ways. We also touched on the word “servers” and how it’s played an important role in the kind of IRC-style culture the company was born in and still cultivates. You’ll hear Jason talk about Discord’s evolving business model — unlike Slack, it never went into enterprise software. Instead, it has a consumer subscription service called Nitro and a growing number of other ways it’s exploring making money, including the platform’s very first ads. Jason also revealed why he ultimately decided not to sell his company to Microsoft for a reported $10 billion and also how the post-pandemic slowdown forced the. Reddit calls itself “The front page of the internet” and has been one of the most visited sites in the world for years. As a result, Reddit has become part of the online experience for millions of people. Being able to narrow down your interests to find groups to chat with, ask questions and share a love for a specific topic is the essence of the site, and there are subreddits for just about any topic you can think of.In many ways, Reddit is the older relative of Discord, with the same principles but in a much more limited way. Think of subreddits like Discord servers, where the focus is on a specific theme or range of topics, bringing people together into a community of shared interest. Of course, Discord servers have many advantages over the older idea, owners can set their own rules, they can include both audio and video content and chat, host competitions and so much more that is just impossible on Reddit. That is why many subreddit communities have spread their wings and become Reddit Discord servers as well. But with so many Discord servers Reddit has inspired, if you are looking for a Reddit community with voice chat and all the other extras so you can make new friends and enjoy a shared interest, knowing which are the best Reddit Discord servers to try can be a challenge.Don’t worry though, with the help of the impressive search and filter functions at Discords.com you can quickly find just about any server you want from the millions of Discord servers now in existence. One of the largest and best Reddit Discord servers, like the man himself, the main focus is gaming chat, especially Minecraft or other games he is currently streaming. But with over 140 channels, you can find people to talk to about almost anything you may be interested in.It’s a well-run server with over 200,000 members, and chat is active almost any time of day.
