Palladium Books has game mechanics that span all of its genres for rifts character creation and classes. If you are familiar with palladium fantasy, Robotech, Heroes Unlimited, Skraypers, or any others then you know the basic rules of creating a Rifts character. I want to do a basic rundown of that process and then give some tips for further optimizing/clarifying the process.Rifts Character CreationThe Rifts Ultimate edition has character creation broken down into 8 steps. This process starts on page 279 of the Ultimate edition. Rifts Character Creation- Step 1. AttributesThere are 8 attributes in the Rifts system but instead of going into detail on each let’s talk about the status quo. What I find in many role-playing games is that we make a huge deal out of character stats. However in the grand scheme of playing, players rarely ever get past level 5, and there are only 4-6 usually. I point this out because while the players are the focus of the gaming experience, they are not what makes the universe up. Simply put, instead of focusing harshly on limiting your player’s stats, equipment, gear, and the like, decide on a power level for the game. Are you playing average characters? If so then roll the dice as stated. If you want above average allow for 1 extra die and then choose the best 3 (if 3 was the stat to roll for example). When we roleplay though oftentimes we are making games for players to be the heroes so in these cases its more appropriate to be doing say 5d6 for a 3d6 stat and choosing the best 3. Alternatively, you could simply state what a heroic stat range is and let the players pick accordingly for their character background, the feel of their character, etc. This last option usually requires a lot of trust but hopefully, you are or will get there. buy a pdf version of the rifts ultimate edition from DriveThruRPGStep 2. HP and SDCThe standard in Rifts is hit points and structural damage capacity. Your hit points are touched after SDC and when you start taking this kind of damage it becomes lethal. I like to think of SDC as bruising and the like. Rifts gets a bad rap though because these health pools are almost never used because a 2nd damage capacity is available.Step 3. Mega damageWhen in a super magic-rich environment a new damage capacity called mega damage, or MDC for short becomes possible. Mega damage is generally only available to humans and other mortals from magic, psionics, and armor (either body, vehicle, or other). 100 HP or SDC is the equivalent of 1 MDC, however, most MDC beings and armor are immune to all SDC damage. So when players first start playing Rifts and get access to these options they may get power-hungry or just destroy things left and right. Generally speaking, MDC weapons are not allowed within most city limits, especially Coalition territory. This means that when you go into Considerably, while the time to complete them does not, since in most bounties you spend at least 75% of the time running through levels, looking for the target monster or event, or the dungeon you need to enter, etc. Higher difficulty level doesn’t change the maps at all; it just gives the monsters lots more hit points, and only a fraction of the time on a typical bounty is spent in combat. This is exactly the opposite in Rifts. There you spend almost all your time in combat, or racing to the next group of enemies, so going up in difficulty greatly increases the time to complete them. Through most of the beta this made Rifts on Torment or higher a very poor reward for the time spent. Happily, towards the end of the beta the devs considerably boosted the drops from Rift Guardians, and upped the usual Shard drop from 20 to 60ish (on Torment) which put them on par with Bounties for the gold and shards (though Bounties were worth more exp, on the whole).Nephalem RiftsRifts are the only place to find Goblin packs.I wrote a long article about Rifts during the beta test, breaking down the average times they took to complete, the rewards granted from monster killing and for Rift completion, the average item finds, etc… all compared to Bounty rewards, time to complete, utility of Blood Shards, etc. And then before I could finish and post the article a big beta patch came along and changed everything. New Rift maps and layouts, changed monster densities, new higher monster kill counters in bounties, and all adjusted gold/exp/Shard rewards for completing bounties and rifts. The net result was that the value of Rifts became much more competitive vs. Bounties, especially on Torment and higher difficulties. I didn’t do all the testing and recording times and exp/gold amounts again after that patch late in the beta, and the values have probably been tweaked since then by Blizzard’s internal testing — but from the direction they were going it seems clear that the devs want to make bounties and Rifts equivalent in rewards. They can’t ever be exact sicne the Bounties you get differ from game to game, and since every Rift is different in monster composition, level layout, monster density, etc.Teamwork and strategy will factor in as well. Split-farming of bounties was fixed during the beta, but you can still do better by splitting up a bit and searching to find the bounty more efficiently. And characters with high movement speed rule for doing Bounties quickly.Rifts are not about movement speed, though it can be nice to move quickly to the next group of enemies. In Rifts what really matters is killing speed, so finding a complimentary suite of characters/builds would boost your Rifting time to increase the profits per hour. Rifts are also a lot more random in size and layout and monster density, so they’re less predictable than Bounties, which you can predict quite accurately, plus or minusDownload PDF - Rifts Mercenaries: A Giant Sourcebook For Rifts
Group was whisked away, bouncing haphazardly through the network of rifts, finally being deposited upon the cliffs overlooking the shores of Madara. There, they confronted the descendants of the nekoru whilst Teferi was lost in the time rifts. Radha battled the prince of the cat dragons seemingly to a standstill, but it wasn't the elvish barbarian that had scared the dragons. Left alone, they were contacted by the disembodied voice of Sensei Ryu who was immensely interested in Radha and Venser's mutated sparks. Using his immense influence over minds, Ryu took hold of Venser's mind and used his will and spark to re-enter the material world in full dread glory.Bolas was fascinated with the mutated planeswalkers and planned to "reward" them for their role in his release. They were only saved by Jhoira's diplomacy and the sudden return of Teferi, who challenged Bolas to a planeswalker's duel. Venser watched, helpless, as Bolas demolished Teferi's attacks and defenses, then turned his attention once more to their group. It was Radha, surprisingly, that talked the elder dragon from taking more than the life of their guard, Aprem. Teferi warned Bolas of the changes the rifts had created, and with a dire threat against the inhabitants of Kamigawa, Bolas departed. After Teferi phased Shiv back in, Jhoira turned to Venser's talents hoping his ambulator could provide much-needed transportation to heal the rest of the time rifts. Venser agreed and traveled with her to find her Ghitu tribesmen. With their help and masterful artifice, Venser managed to perfect his throne device, now constructed of Thran metal and ringed with newly created powerstones. Their first stop with the updated device was back to Urborg, where Venser became the unfortunate target of the attention of the Weaver King and his unholy master. The rifts introduced a new flaw in the device, however: Venser, Teferi, and Jhoira were transported to an alternate timeline in which the Ice Age had never ended and Windgrace was fighting off a new Phyrexian Invasion.[2] Realizing the potential of Venser's latent spark, Teferi and Jhoira use their magic to help Venser complete his. The lore revealed in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom has broader implications for the rest of the franchise, including offering new and horrifying context for a previous Zelda setting. Although relatively small in comparison to its immediate predecessors, Echoes of Wisdom has nonetheless revealed striking new details about Hyrule and the circumstances behind its creation. Moreover, while this naturally feeds strongly into EoW’s own narrative, the new perspective changes how the events of older games can be interpreted as well. Undoubtedly the most significant addition to The Legend of Zelda lore in Echoes of Wisdom is Null, an all-consuming entity whose very existence inspired the creation of Hyrule as a means to contain it. Null’s existence is crucial to EoW’s lore, as it creates the Rifts plaguing the kingdom in its efforts to escape. In addition to being the reason why Link cannot talk in Echoes of Wisdom, Null’s efforts to effectively end existence itself have apparently damaged Hyrule repeatedly over the ages, with true disaster only being held at bay by the Tris. Null Could Be Responsible For Lorule Crumbling Away Its Rifts Could Be Tearing The Dimension Apart Unopposed It is explained in A Link Between Worlds that Lorule is crumbling away due to the loss of its Triforce, with the artifact having been wished away by the royal family. This was done to end the wars fought to claim it, something which parallels the wars Hyrule has also experienced. The unforeseen consequences of this act were disastrous; by the time Link travels to Lorule in ALBW, the kingdom is split apart by a series of chasms created by its slow but unrelenting disintegration. At the time of ALBW’s release and the introduction of this non-Hyrule Legend of Zelda setting, this was all the explanation that was offered for Lorule’s plight. Now, however, Echoes of Wisdom’s introduction of Null suggests something far more terrifying. The chasms that block Link’s path in ALBW could be the work of Null, or perhaps its Lorulean equivalent, eating away at the kingdom personally. This would imply that the loss of the Triforce also had a profoundly negative impact on Lorule’s Tris, rendering them incapable of properly performing their duties. Related Echoes of Wisdom's Sales Prove Where The Zelda Series Should Go Next The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s sales figures are undeniable proof of what kinds of games would best suit the franchise in the future. Of course, Lorule’s chasms aren’t precisely the same as the rifts seen appearing across Hyrule in Echoes of Wisdom. However, this in itself is far from inexplicable; perhaps Lorule’s Tris retain enough power to close Null’s rifts, but without the Triforce (which wouldComments
