For monitor speakers to really shine, they need to have a flat frequency spectrum. You can't EQ when you do not hear it correctly played. Get good monitor speakers or when you listen on headphones get a good one. This can be costly, but the best equipment is needed. Headphones are cheaper and for EQ ing they have a better frequency range. Tough headphones can be less effective playing reverberation sound as they are close distanced to our ears and do not include the room reverberation sound, they can be a good tool for EQ and Compression, unmasking, correlation and balance, dimension 1 and 2. I prefer to wear a winter hat over my head and especially over the ears and then put on the headphone over hat. Most headphones your ears will get moisture and i also like some barrier of cloth or any woven material in between my ears and the headphone. For me a simple winter hat that is not fat or thick, as long as there is a fe millemeters of cloth between. Listening to good speakers is important, when you listen on a home stereo set you are missing out on hearing the correct amount of frequencies played. Get good monitor speakers instead. Good equipment starts with good monitor speakers that represent frequencies well from low to high and are as flat as can be. EQ ing is almost impossible when you can't hear what you’re doing. Once selected, you can adjust the EQ while still viewing the tonal balance curve. Alternatively, turning something up or down can be as useful as EQing. You can do this by adjusting the output gain of the corresponding tool as shown at the top right of the EQ readout in Tonal Balance Control. As you’re doing this, it’s important to keep a few things in mind:First and foremost, use your ears. This visual information can act as a powerful roadmap to help you find the elements and areas that may need attention, but at the end of the day, it’s all about what you’re hearing.Don’t aim for ruler-flat. It’s natural to have some variation in your tonal balance curve, and that’s part of what gives a song its sonic signature.Think about whether you’re adjusting individual or multiple sources in a given area and tailor your EQ moves accordingly. The more sources you’re adjusting in a given range, the less EQ each is likely to need. Finally, let’s look at the role of tonal balance in mastering. How to use tonal balance in masteringIn the mastering stage of audio production, engineers compare the tonal balance of a reference track with their own work to help guide their EQ decisions. 2025-04-17That parametric eq circuit into the signal path... let me know what your results are with the pushing of 2khz at 10:00 (2nd notch to the left) with SC listen engaged vs straight through without SC listen engaged. To my ears, very similar... so engaging the parametric might kill about 1db in 2khz? I honestly had cut on the graphic at 2khz and boosted the parametric at 2khz with sc listen in when I was testing the unit Had also boosted a bit in the lows on the parametric too I think before I knew how to "use" the box. When just using my ears and having "SC listen" engaged... all I knew is that I dug what I was hearing. When I asked Avalon about it, they said that the SC Listen was originally designed to hear the frequencies sent into the side chain... but since then people have also used it to add the parametric eq to the signal. Sounds dang good to me. That sweet variable frequency parametric 2 band combined with the sweet graphic 6 band makes this box a versatile eq. OK, I stand corrected, the SC EQ is not a pair of HP/LP filters, as I had thought, but a regular "sweep" EQ. I normally only ever have mine set to remove a little bit of low end from the side chain, so the compressor doesn't pump as much.On my unit, when I push SC Listen, the unit as a whole functions as normal, except the compressor make-up gain is disabled. The input drive, compressor and main six-band EQ still works, as does the final output gain control. The level does drop and the tone does change, in a rather undesirable way, even with the SC EQ controls set "flat".On trying to use the
