Thread starter trainguy Start date Aug 5, 2008 Status Not open for further replies. #1 Hi guys.I am having much trouble with the midurface-intersect command. This, as I understand it, is the only command available to somewhat automate the arduous task of making sure that orthogonal surfaces will be meshed contiguously, for a plate model.The issue now, is that 2 out of 5 times, I do not manage to get the surface meshes to actually connect. The NeiNastran folks tell me my geometry is not quite closed, but I wonder to how many decimal places must my gaps be closed before this works?I know there is a tolerance when checking coincident nodes that I can adjust, but my nodes will only be coincident if I manually define, for each curve at the boundary of 2 surfaces, the number of nodes required. I wouldn't have to do this if the intersect command worked!At this point, my work would clearly have been complete had I approached this problem. Siemens simcenter femap key 2025. The original reason that it was so big is because all steps of a random analysis were saved in the results. I have deleted these but the file has not shrunk at all. Just as you used FeMap to prepare your Nastran model, what are you using to prepare your Ansys model ? does your FeMap have the option to export an analysis model in Ansys format, or analyze with Ansys ?whatever you're using as your Ansys pre-processor should be able to accept a neutral file from FeMap of the existing model (anlayzed in Nastran). Copy surfaces to new model in FEMAP v10.1 Thread starter jlbelshan Start date Aug 18, 2010 Status Not open for further replies. #1 I created surfaces in one model, grouped them and all supporting geometry, exported to a NEU file, and read into another model. But they get deleted during import b/c they're not attached to a solid. Has anyone worked around this yet? The only way I've found to get them to import is to use Geometry...Solid...Extrude with thickness of 1E-15 on each one. But the downside to doing this is:1) tedious, since the command has to be run one surface at a time.2) surface attributes and curve mesh sizes are lost.3) the rest of the model that they're getting merged into is all surfaces, and it would be nice to have consistent geometry types. Is there a way to turn off the automatic deleting, or to trick it by editing the NEU file. I'm going to look now at adding a fake invalid solid that references all of the disconnected surfaces, just to sneak them past the importer. Thanks for any help. When I created a Group of surfaces to use when exporting the Femap neutral file, I didn't think to include the Solids that use those surfaces in the group. ONce I did that, the NEU file import into another model worked fine, preserving mesh sizes, mapping, and surface attributes. Case closed. Status Not open for further replies.
