Is clearly being something of an ass over this, but I'm not not sure that saying things like "I have not given anyone permission to post them anywhere else." in a discussion of an app that doesn't post photos anywhere else is particularly helpful. Posted ages ago. ( permalink ) zyrcster says: It's not really an "alternative browser" -- it's a way to download (and upload) files from (and to) Flickr, primarily. The potential for the abuse of such downloads was the problem. Not so much anymore now that the app restricts itself to CC images. Posted ages ago. ( permalink ) ColleenM says: The Ewan "essentially just an alternative browser. No?"No. It's a way to batch download images from Flickr. In its original incarnation, he allowed anyone to batch download all of my images, regardless of their copyright status and my own "no one but me can download my images" account settings.Essentially he created an application that allowed anyone to download all the images from Flickr that they wanted to. For any purpose. It wasn't even limited to displaying somewhere else on the internet.(Just in case you didn't know, Darkr is in compliance with the API TOS. I can opt out of participation in Darkr without blocking all other API uses. And Darkr does not allow more access to my account through the Darkr program than I allow on Flickr)And there was a problem with his charging, since he did not have a commercial API key. This guy is simply, as someone put it earlier in this thread, behaving like a "belligerent wall". In spite of having his API key expired by Flickr, he's still writing in a public forum that it's up the the people who post on Flickr to understand the API key and how he can exploit it. Still works with the new flickr site. For the record, I don't like the new look. The small square thumbnails were perfect for easy viewing, the "never ending" google images style page of images is a pain in the arse.I don't think @ $25 a year to get stats and no adverts is good value for money. I shall be looking for an alternative and voting with my feet.Maybe this is Yahoo's way of finally killing off Flickr. Posted ages ago. ( permalink ) bcg~art says: Just looked at ipernity. The intro page looks like the old flickr, but I see no option for a "tour", so I can check it out first. Posted ages ago. ( permalink ) ambitious whistle says: just contacted ipernity and they hope to have a system in place within 24 hours to bulk download all of your flickr photos plus titles, descriptions, tags, permissions etc., so that may well be the way to go for us long time pros with thousands of photos who aren't wanted any more at flickr Posted ages ago. ( permalink ) *CA* says: Last night I used BulkrPro to download my 5,230 photos from Flickr. So now I have all of my photos as well as a text file for each with the title, caption text,t, and tags, I don't see exif data embedded in the photo file. Maybe I didn't check something correctly and will have to try again.BUT I have all my photos and my text backed up. That's important to me because I often write short vignettes to go with my images. Now to find another site. I will really miss the community of contacts I've built up since 2005.Bulkr website:clipyourphotos.com/bulkr Posted ages ago. I am currently checking out ipertnity, Trovebox and 500px. 1X seems a little pricey for my needs, but the other sites offer some pretty good paid services, which makes me hopeful. Posted ages ago. I went to the ipernity website and there is no info on this unless, I suppose, one joins the group. Well, alternative websites may not even be the answer. Once these sites get oodles of new joiners, it too will probably go the way of the world, raise the price while getting lazy re: layout design. We may have no choice in the future but to pay for garbage. Posted ages ago.
