Today, there are really only two pro-level font managers left, and Suitcase Fusion is the undisputed king of the hill. The last word:īack in the day, there were several font managers for the Mac that competed heavily for the hearts, minds and hard drive space of creative users. If you’re new to font management, or considering a switch from another font manager, I encourage you to watch the recent Suitcase Fusion 8 webcast Extensis did. It’s hard to explain, but you’ll see what I mean if you try it. But if a font family only has one font (very typical with display fonts, and free fonts from the internet in particular), it still takes up an entire row instead of just showing the next font right next to it-allowing you to see more font tiles at a time without scrolling. If a font family has numerous fonts (bold, italics, black, condensed, etc.) they appear in a grid all the way across the window and down as many rows as needed. Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question. After clean installing Leopard and using Apple's Migration tool, Suitcase Fusion reports "Missing Fonts" or "cannot preview the fonts". The same occurs with Leopard upgraded over Tiger. Extensis seems to be oblivious to the problem and we have cleaned up the font caches (with Font Finagler as well as Shift booting the Macs). We have been upgrading or migrated several users in various environments and we have had varying levels of success. Does any one know why Suitcase behaves this way? Is the font db dependent on the drive name or user account? Is there any way to repair the font database? Perhaps the fonts are on a remote volume (not mounted when the db updates.) "Find Missing Fonts" doesn't seem to correct the problem. We use Suitcase for font management and load fonts on a job-by-job basis. When the fonts are activated in Suitcase, they are available to Illustrator, Photoshop and all Microsoft applications, but not to InDesign. The loaded fonts will not show up in the InDesign font menu and upon document open, they come up as missing. In an attempt to work around this, I deactivated the fonts in Suitcase so that InDesign would use the Document Fonts. This did not work, so I tried loading them into Font Book and they still are not available.I thought maybe the recent 17.2 update caused the issue so I rolled back to 17.1 and that didn't help. I've also cleaned out every cache known to man without a successful resolution.Has anyone had a similar issue recently?
