Crashing can be caused by a number of things, such as a corrupt preference in iMovie, insufficient disk space, incompatible formats, a corrupt clip, a conflict in the system set up or user account, corruption in the iMovie library, improperly formatted disk for the iMovie library, etc.. Because your system is is shared, and not local to your Mac, it is hard to trouble shoot from an electronic forum like this one. . The IT person at your school should be the one to address the issue. Since your administrators will not share the password, perhaps you can tell them what you want and let them do it. However, be careful that you don't destroy the projects in the process. Best to make first make a copy of the iMovie library if that's possible or allowed. Before you do anything, be sure first to discuss it with your IT administrators and get their approval and guidance. You might try deleting/resetting preferences as that is a harmless procedure that often cures issues with iMovie. To delete preferences, open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. Deleting preferences is a safe procedure that will not cause data loss or disruption to your project. Also, if you

Hello---I have an iMac 10.5.8. Today I began converting old 8mm home movies onto DVD by use of a Toshiba. I am importing non-commercial DVDs into iMovie. I was so proud of myself when I figured out (through use of old forum) how to take the DVD and create a new image and mount into iMovie '08 (7.1.4). I did this successfully first try and was on cloud nine. Now editing can begin. Well, feeling on a roll I went for a second 8mm and got it onto a DVD. Went through all the steps (application, utility, disk utilities etc.) now it is sitting as a .dmg file on desktop, same as before. This time, however, after I launch iMovie and double-click the .dmg home movie----iMovie will read "Generating Thumbnails" for a few seconds and the blue bar will appear as if it is a 1/3 done and it will suddenly quit and this is the message I get:(Oops. Picture missing. Edited to add message reads: "The application iMovie quit unexpectedly. Mac OS X and other application are not affected."I tried to report the problem to Apple but it says it can't be done at this time and retry. What I can't figure out is I have done it already and it worked fine. Hi everyone,I'm planning to shoot some video footage on my Sony camera in XAVC HS 10-bit 4:2:2 format, and I want to edit the footage in iMovie on my MacBook Air M2. I'm not concerned about the output format, but I'm wondering if iMovie on this hardware and software configuration can support 10-bit color depth for this specific video format during the editing process.I've read conflicting information online about whether iMovie typically uses 8-bit or 10-bit color depth, so I'm hoping to get some clarification from the community. If iMovie on my MacBook Air M2 can support 10-bit color depth for XAVC HS 10-bit 4:2:2 files during the editing process, will I be able to take advantage of the higher bit depth for color and exposure corrections, even if the final rendered movie is in 8-bit?I'm new to video editing, so any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated. Here's a link that lists the formats that iMovie supports. I see XAVC-S but not XAVC-HS. However, XAVC-HS is not specifically excluded either. So don't know for sure whether iMovie will support XAVC-HS. You might try a test to see.About incompatible media in iMovie for macOS – Apple Support (AU)I Movie does support Pro Res 422, that supports 10 bit. Take a look at this white paper link published by Apple, page 10 in particular. your Sony can record XAVC-HS at 10 bit 422, you might see if the camera is supported in Apple's list of supported cameras: iMovie for macOS supported cameras - Apple SupportMy thinking is that if iMovie supports the camera then it likely supports the 10 bit 422 that the camera can do. Perhaps others on this forum who may have experience with the formats you mention will chime in here. -- Rich Similar questions color correction is terrible Why does iMovie do a terrible job at color correction? I'm trying to fix old VHS movies I've imported into my mac, and whenever I try applying auto correction, it will fix the current frame of my footage only. Then, when you go to look at another part of the clip, the same setting gets applied? If the same color setting is applied throughout an entire clip (let's say 30 minutes), then it ruins any portion of the movie that isn't that exact frame!I just don't get it at all. It's as if iMovie is using the same tool that is used in photos. That wouldn't truly work with a video file. iMovie needs to be able to apply color correction correctly throughout the entire clip, not just
