Two Raleigh men were arrested on murder charges Monday night in the Sept. 29 shooting of a man on New Bern Avenue.Mikal JaJuan Jordan of 119 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. was arrested in Ahoskie in Hertford County by Raleigh and Ahoskie officers, police spokesman Jim Sughrue said.Solister Lester III of 1215 E. Martin St. was arrested in Raleigh, Sughrue said.The men, both 21, were charged with killing Joshua George Ayalogu, 30, of 2438 Keith Drive. Police found him shot in the 1500 block of New Bern Avenue in the early evening of Sept. 29, and he died the next day at WakeMed Raleigh hospital.Police have not disclosed what they think led to the killing, but they said it was not a random attack.Jordan was paroled from prison Sept. 5 after serving time for a May 2014 conviction for gun possession by a felon. The felony was possession with intent to sell a Schedule II drug, the group that includes cocaine and various prescription medications, in January 2014.State corrections records listed him as being on parole in Hertford County.Jordan also was convicted of several drug charges on which he was arrested in April and May 2011. His Wake County arrest record that dates to April 2010, a month after he turned 16.Lester was arrested in June 2011 on a murder charge, but the case was dismissed later that year. He was arrested several other times on various charges, but most were dismissed.Lester was given 18 months’ probation in 2012 for felony drug possession.He has a Wednesday court date on a misdemeanor marijuana-possession charge and is slated for a trial Dec. 28 on charges of driving with a revoked license and speeding and another misdemeanor marijuana charge, all from Sept. 24.This story was originally published October 6, 2015 at 7:17 AM.
