To complete his mission—especially now that he knows what she said is true: Mandalore is not cursed. She’s not so sure, though, because this ruin does not resemble the place she once ruled. But she respects his choices and says she’ll take him to the living waters if that’s what he really wants. The pair discuss the old days of Mandalore. The bustling city. Her father’s sacrifice in its defense and the Empire’s desire to punish them. They then enter the mines themselves, which have been around far longer than the cities above. Eventually they reach the living waters and, almost as a joke, Bo-Katan reads out the plaque that’s there to commemorate this pseudo-tourist attraction: These mines date back to the age of the first Mandalore. According to ancient folklore, the mines were once a mythosaur lair. Mandalore the Great is said to have tamed the mythical beast. It is from these legends that the skull signet was adopted and became the symbol of our planet. Obviously, she does believe in any of this even though she’s Mandalorian royalty. So she watches curiously, almost humorously, as Mando takes off his weapons and begins the process of regaining his honor. He heads into the water, reciting his creed along the way when, out of nowhere, he’s sucked under. Bo-Katan doesn’t hesitate. This wouldn't be the first time an animal was the inspiration for a Star Wars creature or alien. Considering how many aliens and creatures exist in the franchise, it makes sense that the creators would look to real-life animals for insight. In the second episode of the Disney+ series, Mando (Pedro Pascal) was put in a difficult situation by the Jawas, who sent him off to retrieve an egg. The task given to him by the Jawas forced Mando into a tough battle with a powerful and feared creature known as the Mudhorn. The large beast resembled a rhino, but had a much larger horn and fur all over his body. After a challenging fight with the Mudhorn, Mando lost, and was nearly killed by the beast. Fortunately, he was rescued by Baby Yoda, who lifted the Mudhorn with the Force, allowing Mando to kill the creature with his vibroblade. The Mudhorn was later used as the signet for Mando's new Mandalorian clan. Though a fearsome beast who is perhaps the most challenging obstacle faced yet by Mando, the Mudhorn isn't just a product of science fiction. He looks nearly identical to the Elasmotherium, an extinct species of rhino that lived over two million years ago. The creature is also known as a Siberian unicorn. First discovered in 1809, the Elasmotherium is believed to have existed in Eastern Europe and parts of China. It supposedly flourished until around 39,000 years ago. The Mandalorian Sign in to your ScreenRant account The Mandalorian season 3, episode 4 “The Foundling” may have just revealed how past Mandalorians learned to ride Mythosaurs. The mystic creature appeared at the end of The Mandalorian season 3, episode 2 “The Mines of Mandalore” when Bo-Katan Kryze saved Din Djarin in the Living Waters. It’s not clear what the Mythosaur’s role will be or when it will return, but its reveal will most definitely be important going forward. Din Djarin has been seen taming other beasts, most notably the blurrg from The Mandalorian season 1, but the Mythosaur is a large leap from that. The stories told in The Mandalorian all talk about how Mand'alor the Great and other ancient Mandalorians were able to tame and ride the beasts, but how they accomplished that seems to have been lost in the eons that have passed. However, The Mandalorian season 3, episode 4 may have revealed how the ancient Mandalorians were able to tame a beast as great as the Mythosaur. Mandalorians Adopt Animal Foundlings As Well As Converts Pedro Pascal and three masked Mandalorian actors in The Mandalorian season 3 The ending of The Mandalorian season 3, episode 4 showed the rescue party bringing back the baby raptors as foundlings after Din Djarin, Paz Vizsla, and Bo-Katan Kryze killed their mother. This came as a bit of a shock, considering all of the other Mandalorians seen have presumably been humans, with the notable exception being Grogu. This would mean that the Way allows Mandalorians to adopt animals as foundlings, just like they welcome other beings. Din Djarin and Grogu are not from Mandalore but are considered Mandalorians because they are foundlings and choose to walk the Way. The adoption of the baby raptors as foundlings means that in the future, once the raptors are older, they will not hunt the Mandalorians as they are now part of the tribe. It was shown that other Mandalorians had been taken from their camp as food, but now that the baby raptors are on their side, they won't serve as threats any

Part thanks to the baby rancor that the new crime lord rides into battle. But when that rancor goes rogue and begins rampaging through Mos Espa, it’s Grogu who has to save the day, using his Force powers to put the beast to sleep. With Boba Fett now firmly in control of Mos Espa, and Din and Grogu back together, the happy duo can fly off to their next adventure on the new Naboo N-1 Starfighter that Peli fixed up for Mando earlier in The Book of Boba Fett. Mando and Grogu zipping through space is pretty much where we pick up the story in “The Apostate.” As recapped in the episode, Din has been excommunicated from his Mandalorian clan after removing his helmet in season 2. The only way to redeem himself is to “bathe in the living waters of the mines of Mandalore.” And now you know that when Din does reach Mandalore in season 3, Grogu will be right by his side. Of the episode (when the Mandalorian speaks with the Mythrol), is a device that emits a hologram that showcases an image of the target. Greef tells our hero that there is no puck for his new target, which means that the Mandalorian does not know what his quarry looks like.The tracking fob is used by bounty hunters to locate their targets. This device apparently includes a chain code, which perhaps is similar to coordinates on a star map, only it’s for finding people rather than places. Or maybe the chain code is specific info or stats about the target, like his or her age? The tracking fob for the Mandalorian’s new target in the premiere is missing some numbers, though it seems a Mandalorian like our title character is a skilled enough tracker to use this excerpt to find the bounty.Kuiil and UgnaughtKuiil (voiced by Nick Nolte) is the vapor farmer who leads the Mandalorian to the hideout at the end of the first episode. Ugnaughts have been in Star Wars lore since The Empire Strikes Back, although this one appears to be more conversational, as well as friendly to humans, than the ones on Cloud City. They have also appeared in The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels.Blurrg and MythosaurThese two-legged beasts of burden transported the freedom fighters of Ryloth (think Hera Syndulla’s father, Cham) in The Clone Wars, and also appeared in Star Wars Rebels. They first appeared in the non-canonical made-for-TV movie Ewoks: The Battle for Endor. This creature also evokes memories of the animated beast Boba Fett rides in the infamous Holiday Special, the mythosaur. In another clever homage to the Holiday Special, the Ugnaught Kuiil refers to the mythosaur when encouraging the Mandalorian not to give up on his riding lessons.RavinakThis snake-like creature is new to the Star Wars universe, and crashes through the surface of the icy world from the opening of the first episode, taking a bite at the Mandalorian’s ship, the Razor Crest. It’s reminiscent of the joopas from Season 2 of Star Wars Rebels (“The Lost Commanders”), as far as being a monster from below the surface, but other than that, this is a new denizen in the mythology.MythrolThe blue-skinned alien that the Mandalorian puts into carbonite and collects the bounty on is a new species to Star Wars as well.
