Before Windows, there was MS-DOS—that’s the Microsoft Disk Operating System, if you’re unfamiliar—a text-based, command-line interface operating system that was the way into managing files and launching applications on non-Apple computers. It was a lot more sparse and a lot less user-friendly than the operating systems we use today, but if you’re old enough to remember it, you’ll know it was cutting edge for the time—and still has some charm left today. While modern computers are vastly more powerful than the ones from the heyday of MS-DOS, you can still run the old operating system—all you need is the right program, and there are a few different options to pick from.Maybe you want to run some classic applications or games of the past, or maybe you’re interested in this part of computer history, or maybe you’re just a little nostalgic—but whatever your reasons, here’s how to run MS-DOS today on Windows or macOS.How to set up DOSBox-XYou have now arrived in DOSBox-X. Screenshot: DOSBox-XAs we’ve said, there are various different ways to get MS-DOS running on modern systems, to suit different setups and requirements, and we can’t cover them all here. For this guide, we’ll concentrate on the DOSBox-X emulator: It’s free to use, it’s simple to set up, and it’s a good starting point for most people. From the DOSBox-X homepage, download the version of the emulator to match your system—Windows, macOS, or Linux. Run the downloaded file, and when the setup process has completed, you’ll be left with a standalone program you can run to launch a window running an MS-DOS environment.Don’t panic if you’ve never used DOS before and find the interface a little daunting: You can type “HELP” then hit Enter to see a list of available commands, or “INTRO” and then Enter to get a brief guided tour of DOSBox-X, and an introduction to its features. There’s also a comprehensive wiki file online, which you can find here.To begin with, you’re not going to be able to see any files on your computer. To fix this, type “MOUNT C” then a space, then a folder on your computer, then hit Enter. So, typing “MOUNT C D:\GAMES” followed by Enter would create a C drive in DOSBox-X that points towards the D:\Games folder on your actual system. You would then type “C:” and Enter to switch to the drive, and “DIR” and Enter to see its contents. You can move any files you want DOSBox-X to see into this folder in Windows or macOS—so any games or applications you want to be able to access in the MS-DOS environment, for example. How to use DOSBox-XYou can play thousands of classic games through DOSBox-X. REP ports on a switch; however, only two ports on a switch can belong to the same REP segment. – If only one port on a switch is configured in a segment, the port should be an edge port. – If two ports on a switch belong to the same segment, they must be both edge ports, both regular segment ports, or one regular port and one edge no-neighbor port. An edge port and regular segment port on a switch cannot belong to the same segment. – If two ports on a switch belong to the same segment and one is configured as an edge port and one as a regular segment port (a misconfiguration), the edge port is treated as a regular segment port. REP interfaces come up in a blocked state and remains in a blocked state until notified that it is safe to unblock. You need to be aware of this to avoid sudden connection losses. REP sends all LSL PDUs in untagged frames on the native VLAN. The BPA message sent to the Cisco multicast address is sent on the administration VLAN, which is VLAN 1 by default. You can configure how long a REP interface remains up without receiving a hello from a neighbor. You can use the rep lsl-age-timer value interface configuration command to set the time from 120 ms to 10000 ms. The LSL hello timer is then set to the age-timer value divided by 3. In normal operation, three LSL hellos are sent before the age timer on the peer switch expires and checks for hello messages. – In Cisco IOS Release 12.2(52)SE, the LSL age-timer range changed from 3000 to 10000 ms in 500-ms increments to 120 to 10000 ms in 40-ms increments. If the REP neighbor device is not running Cisco IOS release 12.2(52)SE or later, do not configure a timer value less than 3000 ms. Configuring a value less than 3000 ms causes the port to shut down because the neighbor switch does not respond within the requested time period. – EtherChannel port channel interfaces do not support LSL age-timer values less than 1000 ms. If you try to configure a value less than 1000 ms on a port channel, you receive an error message and the command is rejected. When configuring the REP LSL age timer, make sure that both ends of the link have the same timeOpen extensions .htm, .mht in MS Edge and MS edge chromium

So i have been trying to find a way to convert them to ether .bin or .smd. on another form someone gave me a link to a program called SMD BIN WIN ( which is supposed to support conversions between all 3 formats. gave it a shot but it ended up corrupting the file so no emulator could read it. Tried looking at the support forms for it but they arnt up anymore. the last update was in 2007 i believe so looks as though its not supported. does anyone here have experience in doing any conversions with this file type? much appreciated!edit: here is a paper on the different formats...but it might as well be in another language for me ... is_rom.txt Atari 2600 Jr., NES, Gameboy, Genesis 1 and 2, Saturn, Virtual Boy, Gameboy Advance (with Supercard SD), Playstation (With Goldfinger), Nintendo 64, Playstation 2(modded), Nintendo DS (Fat) with Edge eSPy 64-bit Posts: 422 Joined: Fri Jun 12, 2009 10:04 pm Re: Genesis/Mega Drive Roms extention question (SMD, BIN, MD) Post by eSPy » Fri Oct 30, 2009 6:46 pm thanks for that!just tryin it now with not much luck. put the file to be converted in the same folder as the program and ran with the command line.
