Application in your applications menu or by searching for it.Enter Connection Details: When prompted, enter your VPN server’s IP Address or Hostname. For RV340 family devices, the default port is `8443`.Enter your Credentials: Provide your username and password.Adjust Security Settings (if necessary): If you have trouble connecting due to untrusted servers, you can disable the security block by unchecking the option `Block connections to untrusted servers` in the preferences.Connect: Click on `Connect` and accept any login banners that appear. Once connected, you should receive a notification confirming your VPN connection. And that’s it! You’ve successfully installed and connected to the Cisco VPN using AnyConnect on Ubuntu.Method 2: Using OpenConnect as a Free AlternativeIf you’re looking for an open-source option, OpenConnect is a solid alternative that’s compatible with Cisco’s VPN. Here are some common issues and how to troubleshoot them:1. Connection FailureSymptom: After entering your credentials, the connection fails, and you can’t connect to the VPN.Possible Causes: This issue often stems from incorrect server addresses or unstable network connections.Solution: Double-check that you’ve entered the correct VPN server address. Also, ensure your internet connection is stable. If you’re still having trouble, restarting your router or switching to a wired connection might help.2. Push Notifications Not ReceivedSymptom: You’re not receiving push notifications for two-factor authentication (2FA), leaving you unable to complete the login process.Possible Causes: This issue can arise from an incompatibility between Ubuntu and the specific 2FA method your VPN server uses.Solution: Check if your VPN server supports alternative authentication methods, like SMS or a one-time password (OTP) generator

Systemd-openconnectThis is a simple systemd unit file (service) to initialize Openconnect VPN connection on system startup, without any password prompts. Current example is used to connect to Juniper Network Connect / Pulse Secure SSL VPN (passing --protocol=nc to Openconnect). To use other protocols which Openconnect supports you might nwant to change this, as well as check what other options are needed specific to your protocol.RequirementsFedorayum install -y stoken-cli openconnectUbuntuTBDNotes on compatibilityWorks fine on Fedora 30, Ubuntu users might need to make a little tweak to it because of openconnect CLI args. For example, it worked on Ubuntu simply by changing --protocol=nc to --juniper).SecurityYou might think that connecting to VPN on start-up is not secure because anyone in posession of your laptop can hack your company's infrastructure. For this reason it is strongly recommended to encrypt your drive or (if you don't like the CPU overhead of full encryption) at least encrypt most sensitive files. I personally only store .stokenrc on an encrypted partition, and everything else is unencrypted.

I need to use a third party web service which is accessible only through Cisco AnyConnect VPN. I'm using OpenConnect on Ubuntu to connect to this VPN using host, username, and password. However, instead of having to manually connect every time we need to connect to the service (since the service is being consumed by a script that runs on daily basis), I would like to set it up once and have itself reconnect when the tunnel breaks. Is there a way for us to connect openconnect client (or any other similar client for Cisco AnyConnect) to automatically reconnect when the connection breaks.Alternatively, is there a way to login without username and password and store that configuration somewhere so we can automatically respawn the process when it stops. Please note that this is all on a server, so no GUI. asked Jul 26, 2016 at 8:41 See the options it has. openconnect --help:-u,--user=NAMESet login username to NAME--passwd-on-stdinRead password from standard input--reconnect-timeoutKeep reconnect attempts until so many seconds have elapsed. The default timeout is 300 seconds, which means that openconnect can recover VPN connection after a temporary network downtime of 300 seconds.it also supports a--config=CONFIGFILEThere are several scripts on-line you can adapt to your situation. answered Jul 26, 2016 at 9:09 RinzwindRinzwind308k44 gold badges589 silver badges736 bronze badges I created a script to do this, you must change DEVICE_NAME, SERVER_ADDRESS, USERNAME and PASSWORD_FILE_PATH to a file that contains your passwordYou can find the name of your VPN device with /sbin/ifconfig.#!/bin/bashif ! /sbin/ifconfig | grep -q 'DEVICE_NAME'; then sudo openconnect -b -q SERVER_ADDRESS -u 'USERNAME' --passwd-on-stdin answered Oct 28, 2017 at 10:08 i use a service file/etc/systemd/system/myVpn.service[Unit]Description=My Vpn ConnectionAfter=network.target[Service]Type=simpleEnvironment=password=correcthorsebatterystaple ExecStart=/bin/sh -c 'echo YourPasswordHere | sudo openconnect --protocol=nc YourServerHere --user=YourUserHere --passwd-on-stdin'Restart=alwaysthen I just run it withsystemctl start myVpn answered May 15, 2020 at 10:42 1 My solution is:Got to your ~/.bashrc file and scroll to the bottomcreate an alias like:vpn-up='openconnect --your options'save then close terminal and reopen terminalUnfortunately, it doesn't reconnect itself, but I use --reconnect-timeout=60 so at least I don't lose connection at all when the connection to the server fails, and it's easier than constantly looking for the whole command. answered Jul 7, 2023 at 12:51 JosefJosef11 bronze badge You must log in to answer this question.
