If we have a connection string defined in our appsettings.json file we can have our App Services override this by using a connection string defined in Azure Key Vault instead WITHOUT changes to our code. This is pretty cool and the steps below show how its done… Create a Managed Identity for your App Service so Key Vault can grant accessIn order to read secrets from a Key Vault we need to have the correct permissions. The first step in this is to create a Managed Identity.Managed Identities allow us to provide an identity for our Azure resources. Other resources can then use this identity to grant our resource access to its services. To create a Managed Identity go to your App Service and open the identity page and turn the Status button On as shown below…Copy the Object ID which has appeared on the page, we’ll need this for the next step.Note… there are two types of Managed Identities; system assigned and user assigned. Currently only system assigned identities can support key vault references.Add a Key Vault Access Policy for your App Service IdentityNext we need to go to our Key Vault and grant the previously created identity permission to GET/READ secrets.First go to the Access polices page in your Key Vault and click ‘+ Add Access Policy‘ as shown below…… then add the policy as shown below. Connection Strings are stored as secrets and we only need permissions to read them so we will only set one permission. In the Select principal field, select your app (the easiest way is to just paste in the Object ID from the previous step). After you add the policy you will be brought back to the main Access policies page and should see your App Service listed under ‘Current Access Policies’.Add the connection string as a secret to your Key VaultNow we move onto actually adding the connection string to the key vault. You’ve probably already done this so skip ahead if you have.First add the connection string as shown below. The Value of the secret will be your connection string. Then after it’s created navigate back into the current version of your secret (there will only be one as you’ve just created it) and copy the URL reference. We will use this in the next step.Add a reference to the secret from App Service connection strings configurationThe final step is to add a new connection string from the Configuration page of our App Service. Connection strings which are defined here will override those of the same name defined in the appsettings.json file. When using a key vault reference the syntax is:@Microsoft.KeyVault(SecretUri= secret version is optional. If you do not include it Azure will use the current Our Secret Below (2025) 2 of 2. Our Secret Below (2025) Titles Our Secret Below. Languages English. A file pki-intermediate.csr. With this signing request, signing it using our Root CA. After this, we’re setting the intermediate certificate authorities signing certificate to the root-signed certificate.Lastly, we create a role localhost-3 to issue certificates that will expire in 3h.Now, our intermediate certificate authority is configured. We can test it by using the command below:vault write pki-int/issue/localhost-3 common_name="localhost" ttl=1hThis command should generate certificates on the terminal with an expiry time of 1h.This is the manual way to generate certificates. To automate the generation of certificates from an Intermediate CA, we’ll use Vault Agent.4. Configure Vault AgentTo use the intermediate CA, we’ll tie a policy to the role localhost-3 so that it can use the PKI secret engine:path "pki-int/issue/localhost-3" { capabilities = ["update"]}Save the above snippet in a file called policy.hcl and run the command below to create this policy:vault policy write vault-agent-policy path/to/policy.hclNow, we’ll enable an authentication method like AppRole:vault auth enable approlevault write auth/approle/role/localhost-3 \ token_policies="vault-agent-policy" \ secret_id_ttl="24h" \ token_ttl="1h" \ token_max_ttl="4h"The above command will tie the role localhost-3 to vault-agent-policy.Write role-id and secret-id to files.vault read auth/approle/role/localhost/role-idecho “role-id-from-above-command" > role-idvault write -f auth/approle/role/localhost/secret-idecho “secret-id-from-above-command" > secret-idNow we’ll configure a template and save it in a file template.tpl:{{- with pkiCert "pki-int/issue/localhost-3" "common_name=localhost" "alt_names=localhost" "ttl=5m" -}}{{ .Cert }}{{ .CA }}{{ .Key }}{{ .Key | trimSpace | writeToFile "/path/to/private_key.key" "" "" "0400" }}{{ .CA | trimSpace | writeToFile "/path/to/ca.pem" "" "" "0644" }}{{ .Cert | trimSpace | writeToFile "/path/to/certificate.crt" "" "" "0644" }}{{- end -}}In this template, a role localhost-3 that we created earlier will generate certificates with an expiry time of 5mins and save it to files. Every time before the certificate expires, it’ll ask the Vault server to issue a certificate and write them to these files.Lastly, we need a configuration file for the Vault Agent:pid_file = "/paht/to/pidfile.pid" vault { address = " auto_auth { method { type = "approle" config = { role_id_file_path = "/path/to/role-id" secret_id_file_path = "/path/to/secret-id" remove_secret_id_file_after_reading = false } }} template { source = "/path/to/template.tpl" destination = "/path/to/all-certs"}Save this configuration in a file called vault_agent.hcl. In this file, we’re mentioning about Vault server address, auth method, location of the template.tpl file and a destination file all-certs where the Vault Agent writes all certificates and keys. Then, create a file pidfile.pid that Vault Agent uses to write its process id.Now run the below command to start the Vault Agent:sudo vault agent -config=/path/to/vault_agent.hclOur Vault Agent is started. We can verify the generation of certificates in files private_key.key, ca.pem, certificate.crt, and all-certs files. We’re running with the sudo command to avoid any permission issues. So, we’ve configured the Vault server and Vault Agent. Let’s configure our Spring Boot app.5. Configure the Spring Boot AppFirst, we create a Spring Boot

Relative ‘high’ compared with the 1/3 angle intersections. Also note on the JPM chart how the squaring of the highs with the 1/3 angle was extremely explosive (far right hand side). 33 Michael S. Jenkins Secret Angle Method This next MMM 5 Min chart uses a 1/3 negative angle to catch a low when the 1/3 rising angle intersects 50% or very close in this case with the ½ top square also hitting. This ‘close’ hit or miss of the low lining up with a vertical line is a ‘tip off’ that another harmonic should be tested to find the one really at work. Here the ½ angle squaring the top was more accurate than the 1/3 crossing the 50% point (which was a great short trade) but the major culprit should tie in with the major patterns in the stock price. 34 Michael S. Jenkins Secret Angle Method Angles can also be used as parallels, and converging to points of culmination. Often we want to extend our graphics above or below the chart range and if we have a valid ½ or 1/3 angle we can make a parallel to it and add it to the top, bottom or 50% of our chart. We can also start two diverging angles with differing slopes to converge to a point where the pattern terminates. Below is an EMINI chart showing these possible uses. Note again the 1/3 angle at 50% pointed to a LOW. 35 Michael S. Jenkins Secret Angle Method The next chart is very busy and is a final resolution of the theory of angles and numbers. It is XOM on a 15 Min basis and I have shown a number of things like convergence of a 1/3 and ½ angle sloping trendlines that converge at the final top.
