2025-03-29Musical que surgió en la República Dominicana en la década de 1960. Inicialmente, se consideraba música de los sectores más humildes y se le asociaba con bares de mala reputación, lo que llevó a que fuera marginada por las élites dominicanas.Sus raíces se encuentran en la música romántica latinoamericana, especialmente en el bolero, pero con influencias del son cubano y el merengue. Los primeros intérpretes de bachata, como José Manuel Calderón, grabaron sus canciones con instrumentos como la guitarra, el bongó y la maraca, creando un sonido melancólico y pasional. Durante los años 70 y 80, la bachata fue relegada a las zonas rurales y los barrios marginados de Santo Domingo. Muchos medios de comunicación y emisoras se negaban a difundirla, considerándola música de “cabaret” o “de la calle”. Sin embargo, artistas como Blas Durán y Luis Segura comenzaron a ganar notoriedad, y poco a poco el género fue abriéndose camino.La revolución de los años 90 y el auge internacionalLa bachata experimentó una gran transformación en los años 90 con la llegada de artistas como Juan Luis Guerra, Antony Santos, Luis Vargas y Raúlín Rodríguez. Juan Luis Guerra, con su álbum Bachata Rosa (1990), ayudó a que el género fuera aceptado en todos los sectores de la sociedad dominicana y atrajera la atención internacional. A finales de los 90 e inicios de los 2000, la bachata se modernizó aún más con artistas como Aventura, quienes introdujeron elementos del R&B y el pop, logrando un sonido más comercial. En la actualidad, cantantes como Romeo Santos y Prince Royce han llevado la bachata a niveles de fama global, consolidándola como uno de los géneros latinos más populares del mundo.
