For its fifth annual New Works Fest, San Jose Jazz is showcasing six Bay Area artists who will premiere an original composition at the SJZ Break Room. The artists in the festival are among 20 who received a 2025 Jazz Aid Fund grant to create an original new work. These grants are intended to provide unrestricted funds to working musicians and enable them to undertake projects that move their work forward. Since 2021, San Jose Jazz has provided 120 Bay Area musicians with $139,000 in grants and performance fees.Leela Paymai opens the fest on Friday, Feb. 21, with her “Zheniia” project, which combines jazz and the Iranian traditional music she heard as a child.“Similar to jazz, improvisation is an essential part of Iranian classical music,” Paymai said in a release. “These two genres, while seeming so different, blend together so well. Using a mix of ancient and modern instruments, I’ve found an outlet to express multiple sides of my musical upbringing.”Paymai’s performance will feature Allison Irvine on violin, Chili Corder on oude, JC Grady on drums and Julian Lopez on keyboards.Following “Zheniia” in the lineup is Ryan Trujillo’s New Beginnings Quartet on Saturday, Feb. 22. For the piece commissioned by SJZ, Trujillo took things in a different direction than his previous works.“I think writing the song marked a shift away from established stylistic conventions and towards a new sound,” said the bassist. “The result is this melody-driven, minimalist thing that I really liked so I decided to continue writing. Exploring this direction, I wrote four very different songs that I will release as singles in the coming months.“The SJZ New Works grant was perfectly timed and allowed me to expand the project budget and get video and artwork done in the process.”Trujillo’s quartet features Jeff Goodkind on piano, John Macdonald onComments

2025-04-05While the footprint of San Jose Jazz’s Summer Fest will be smaller this year than in the past, it will still be bigger than organizers originally envisioned.“We were just focused on the main stage, but then we decided to tie in with the Fountain Blues Festival, which didn’t happen this year,” says Artistic and Festival Director Bruce Labadie. So, organizers added a second stage at the other end of Plaza de Cesar Chavez from the Sobrato Main Stage. The Fountain Blues Stage, booked by the Fountain Blues Foundation in collaboration with Poor House Bistro owner Jay Meduri, will feature blues and New Orleans acts including the Chris Cain Band and Billy Iuso and Friends. While Summer Fest usually sees acts on indoor stages in downtown San Jose, two of the usual festival venues—the Fairmont Hotel and Café Stritch—closed during the pandemic. Even so, Labadie says, organizers were driven by the desire to have more music at their first post-pandemic jazz festival, set for Aug. 13-15.“We decided we needed straight-ahead and Latin jazz, so we added the Montgomery Theater. We decided we needed more, so we added the Hammer Theatre.”Acts at the Hammer include pianists Helen Sung and James Francies and vocalists Kandace Springs and Quiana Lynell. At the Montgomery, guitarist Ray Obiedo will play with Mambo Caribe, and multi-instrumentalist George Brooks will share the stage with Indian classical musician Arjun Verma. The San Jose Jazz office on South First Street will house the SJZ Break Room, where small audiences can watch a live performance while larger crowds watch on outdoor screens.“It only holds about 60 people,” Labadie says. “Some acts that are performing elsewhere are also performing there.”In light of public safety concerns around the coronavirus’s Delta variant, attendees who plan to enter one of the festival’s indoor stages must show a proof of vaccination, or proof of a negative test for Covid-19 within 72 hours of their arrival at the Fest grounds. In addition, everyone must wear a mask while at an indoor Fest venue.Outdoors on South First Street, the CEFCU Latin Tropical Stage will host seven Latin and salsa performances with

2025-03-29Visited Room Lockdown to take part in Prison Break with friends. It was a very good experience. I don't want to give any spoilers obviously! It was slightly different to the ones I have previously attended, for example they can give you as many clues as you need. Whereas other escape rooms only give you a limited amount of clues making it harder to escape. I did feel that this escape room was more interactive than some of the others I have attend though, for example, be prepared to crawl a little. Some parts of the prison break would have been impossible to solve without a clue.Apart from that we had such an amazing time and would defiantly return to play one of the other escape rooms. Really enjoyed ourselves. The staff are excellent.Megan looked after us well. I’d really recommend this for anybody who fancies doing something different with the kids.Prison Break Lockdown Level 4,5,6 Walkthrough 공략. 4,5,6 Walkthrough 공략. Prison Break.
