I don't see a lot of interest in Transmission-GTK anymore. GTK4 is out and nobody has submitted any PRs to help with this.Somebody even made a new GTK4 client with Transmission as a backend instead of just contributing to this project. think at this point, for the health and future of the project, Transmission should drop GTK support and just go Qt only since that toolkit gets better support from this community and the Qt community as well. I don't think we will ever see GTK look good or modern on Linux and right now people are probably focusing more on Mac than Linux so we might as well have the Linux port go entirely Qt so that the Qt port can work for Windows and Linux at the same time to save people time and effort in the long run.GTK development is just slowing us down and we should drop the dead weight sooner rather than later.Need help with Transmission QT Client and PassThePopcorn
Official Transmission BitTorrent client repository AboutTransmission is a fast, easy, and free BitTorrent client. It comes in several flavors: * A native Mac OS X GUI application * GTK+ and Qt GUI applications for Linux, BSD, etc. * A headless daemon for servers and routers * A web UI for remote controlling any of the aboveVisit for more information.Command line interface notesTransmission is fully supported in transmission-remote, the preferred cli client.Three standalone tools to examine, create, and edit .torrent files exist: transmission-show, transmission-create, and transmission-edit, respectively.Prior to development of transmission-remote, the standalone client transmission-cli was created. Limited to a single torrent at a time, transmission-cli is deprecated and exists primarily to support older hardware dependent upon it. Transmission 4.0.0HighlightsThis is a major release, both in numbering and in effort! It's been in active development for over a year and has a huge list of changes -- over a thousand commits -- since Transmission 3.00. Some of the highlights include:Resource Efficiency - Use less memory and fewer CPU cyclesBetter Community - Pull requests welcomed and usedCode Modernization - Migrated from C90 to modern C++New Features - What would a major release be without them?Resource EfficiencyThe code has been extensively profiled and improved to fix inefficient code and memory use. For example, a stress test of starting transmission-daemon with 25,000 torrents is almost entirely IO-bound, using 50% fewer CPU cycles and 70% fewer memory allocations than Transmission 3.00.The remote control GUIs (transmission-qt and transmission-web) now use the RPC API "table" mode, resulting in smaller payloads / less bandwidth use.RPC payloads are now compressed using libdeflate, a "heavily optimized [library that is] significantly faster than the zlib library."CommunityThe project is much more responsive to bug reports and code submissions than it has been in the past. There is a new group of volunteer contributors who are working on Transmission!Transmission 4.0.0 includes over 350 new community commits (see the Thank You section below and in the previous 4.0.0 betas) since 3.00 and welcomes new contributors.Documentation has been moved into the transmission/transmission so that contributors can submit PRs to improve it.Code ModernizationThe entire codebase has been migrated from C to C++. In the process, we've removed thousands of lines of custom code and used standard C++ tools instead. The core's code has shrunk by 18%. The core codebase has been extensively refactored to be more testable and maintainable. The GTK client has been ported to gtkmm. The Web client has been rewritten in modern JavaScript and no longer uses jQuery. The entire gzipped bundle is. 2025-04-02It's fast, it's extremely lightweight, and — even though it's available for a variety of platforms — it behaves just as you'd expect a Mac program to. Macworld, naming Transmission a Mac Gem Easy & Powerful Transmission is designed for easy, powerful use. We've set the defaults to just work and it only takes a few clicks to configure advanced features like watch directories, bad peer blocklists, and the web interface. When Ubuntu chose Transmission as its default BitTorrent client, one of the most-cited reasons was its easy learning curve. Native for Your System Unlike many cross-platform applications, Transmission integrates seamlessly with your operating system. Transmission on macOS is a truly native and polished experience. This isn't some cross-platform app that treats macOS as an afterthought. With a sleek and simple interface, Transmission meets or exceeds Apple UI standards while using native features. v4.0 is Apple Silicon Native! The Qt-based Windows UI has been modernized and is fully Windows 11 ready. The GTK interface has been carefully written to follow the GNOME Human Interface Guidelines and features. Lightweight & Lightning Fast Transmission has one of the lowest memory & resource footprints of any major BitTorrent client. Transmission's light overhead is one reason why it is so well suited for home NAS and media servers. Having been used by Western Digital, Zyxel and Belkin, Transmission gives truly impressive performance on almost any compatible hardware. Open Source & Privacy Focused Transmission is an open source, volunteer-based project. Unlike some BitTorrent clients, Transmission doesn't play games with its users to make money. We don't bundle toolbars, pop-up ads, flash ads, twitter tools, or anything else. It doesn't hold some features back for a payware version. We don't track our users. Our website and forums have no third-party ads or analytics. Sleek & Feature Rich The features you want from a BitTorrent client with an easy-to-use interface: privacy protection, a web interface, full peer communications, tracker editing, speed limits, and more.
